Scott Slay & the Rail is an Americana, Folk and Bluegrass band from Washington, D.C..
The 4-piece group combines bluegrass, country, irish traditionals, pop melodies, folk, rock and roll, indie rock, honky tonk, and ragtime to produce a novel sound. Ultimately, the band joined together to present songs about experiences that they as humans have known, finding influence from the bands like the Punch Brothers, The Civil Wars, Allison Krauss, the Avett Brothers, and more. Subject matters are tragic, joyful and inexhaustible.
The group sings and plays often, favoriting breweries for their high energy and comfortable environment.
Scott Slay & the Rail is made up of award winning rhythm guitarist and vocalist, Scott Slay, mandolinist, Ben Hill with his soulful harmony vocals, critically acclaimed bassist, Taylor Gerber, and accomplished banjoist and harmony vocalist, Bryan Lesswing. The group has been known to feature cameos from instrumentalists such as Nickel Creek's Mark Schatz, Lonesome River Band's Sammy Shelor, percussionist and award winning drum instructor, Dale Lazar, and Seth Stainback and Roosterfoot's talented bassist, Steve Lazar.
